AIM Startup 2019 roadshows scouting startups in MENA

 

AIM Startup 2019 is gearing up for its third edition with an aim to link 500 startup companies with over 200 global investors. The event, in partnership with the National Program for SMEs and Projects, is an initiative of the UAE Ministry of Economy and will be happening on April 8-10, 2019 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

 

The event’s much awaited feature is the Annual Pitch Competition where startups can compete with their project and impress investors by securing their nod for project financing. Startup founders will also have the opportunity to showcase their projects to an audience comprising of foreign dignitaries and international investors looking for opportunities across a 4,000sqm exhibition floor.

 

AIM Startup 2019 is gathering the best and the most innovative startups based in MENA through a series of roadshows. These two-day roadshows feature a workshop and a pitch competition on the first and second day, respectively. At least 15 startups are expected to participate per location where 5 will be selected to advance to AIM Startup 2019 Annual Pitch Competition. Exhibition fee will also be waived for startups who will be selected during the roadshow and they will have an opportunity to compete for the USD 50,000 pool prize in April in Dubai.

 

AIM Startup 2019 roadshow kicked off in Jordan on December 2-3, 2018 with The Tank by Umniah as partner; Cubical Services hosted the competition in Kuwait on December 11-12, 2018; and Bahraini top entrepreneurs are expected on December 23-24, 2018 at Bahrain Business Incubator Center.

 

Early next year, the roadshow will continue in Oman on January 2-3, 2019 with Sas for Entrepreneurship Center as host partner; in Lebanon on January 9-10, 2019; in Riyadh on January 13-14, 2019 at King Salman Institute for Entrepreneurship with King Saud University as host partner; in both Jeddah and Egypt simultaneously on January 16-17, 2019 with Prince Mohammad bin Salman College (MBSC) for Business and Entrepreneurship as knowledge partners and Creative Hub as Host partners, respectively.

 

Under the theme “Harnessing Global Digitization to Empower Startups and SMEs”, AIM Startup 2019 will gather together startups, incubators, accelerators, investors, policy-makers, corporate representatives, consultants, intellectual property law experts, financial institutions, SMEs and solution providers. Last year’s AIM Startup saw an increase in the number of participating companies looking to raise capitals, expand into new markets, or forge meaningful business relationships.

 

AIM Startup 2018 top participating countries were Switzerland, UK, Germany, Egypt, USA, Lebanon, Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, South Africa, Cameroon, Namibia, Kyrgyzstan, India, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and Australia.
